Eurostat sees lower inflation in Poland

Eurostat economic data indicates that steep decline in Poland's inflation figures in January may have been even grater than the official data published by the Main Office of Statistics (GUS). EU's Eurostat estimates that prices in January rose 3.8 percent compared with the same period a year ago, while GUS said according to preliminary figures inflation was 4 percent higher. Eurostat data may indicate that GUS figures will be revised downwards when it publishes its final inflation numbers two weeks from now.

War of words over PTC picks up

Deutsche Telekom's new ally, Elektrim power and telecoms group andVivendi-backed Elektrim-Telekomunikacja have each asked Polish authorities to investigate events surrounding ownership changes at Polska Telefonia Cyfrowa, Poland's no. 1 mobile phone company. ET's French chief executive Philippe Houdouin claims that corporate registry changes made at Elektrim and DT's request were based on fake corporate documents.
