PiS to postpone tax reform until 2007

Major tax code changes won't be possible until 2007, Kazimierz Marcinkiewicz, prime minister designate of the winning coalition told PARKIET last week. His party, right-leaning Law and Justice (PiS), said earlier it may eliminate capital gains taxes on personal savings and stock market gains.

'It's a successful year', TVN executive says

Second largest Polish TV broadcaster, ITI-controlled TVN is expecting a strong year in 2005, chief executive Piotr Walter said in a recent interview with PARKIET. His station is focusing on the domestic market and has no plans to expand beyond its core TV business, Walter said.

DM BZ WBK rates ceramic tile makers

Stockbroker Dom Maklerski BZ WBK issued a report on two of Poland's biggest ceramic tile manufacturers, downgrading shares of Cersanit group to 'reduce'. It rates its main competitor, Opoczno, a 'buy' with an 11 percent upside from its Oct. 6. closing price of 42.9 zloty on the WSE.

Famur to go public next year

Mining equipment manufacturer Famur SA plans a public listing on the WSE early next year. Silesia-based company, which reported six-month earnings of PLN 26.5 million, says its IPO is scheduled tentatively for the first-quarter of 2006.

Poland to set CO2 emissions quota

Polish government is about to vote on carbon dioxide emissions quotas for major power plants within days. Meanwhile, industry leaders warn it must first set the rules for emissions trading before it assigns specific quotas to various power producers.
