Boryszew eyes new acquisitions

Chemicals group Boryszew S.A., a key holding of Polish businessman Roman Karkosik, may seek other metals and chemical companies, chief executive Krzysztof Sędzikowski said. Mr. Sędzikowski wouldn?t deny his company is interested in state-controlled chemical group Ciech. He woudn?t say whether Boryszew might make a bid for Kęty aluminum packaging maker, whose shares are also listed on the WSE.

Between major acquisitions Boryszew will push hard to integrate its two main operating units, Boryszew and Impexmetal, Sędzikowski said.

Public in new EU skeptical about euro, survey shows

Only 38 percent of people in the ten Eastern European countries expect "positive consequences? from the euro, the European Commission says in a report released today. That compares with 46 percent who fears negative consequences from the adoption of the common currency, the report says. The survey was conducted for the EC by EOS Gallup two months ago.

Road building group PRInż, one of southern Poland?s biggest civil engineering companies that is part-owned by the publicly traded Mostostal Zabrze was declared officially bankrupt by a court in Katowice late last month. Mostostal Zabrze, which owns a third of PRInż, stands to lose 25 million zloty following the bankruptcy.

Kredyt Bank reports 3Q earnings

Kredyt Bank S.A., a mid-sized Polish lender that is controlled by Belgium?s KBC group reported third-quarter earnings of 92 million zloty yesterday, beating consensus estimates and bringing the company a step closer to its official forecast of 400 million zloty profit for all of 2005. Headquartered in Warsaw, Kredyt Bank earned a total of 325 million zloty in the nine months to October.
